Q: I am having pelvic pain- periods are becoming irregularsome light, some heavy, skipping some months. is pain in this area common during menopause?

A: Pain is not something I would say is common during the perimenopausal transition, which is what you are probably experiencing. I suggest you have the pain evaluated. Sometimes with the ovaries producing irregular or erratic amounts of estrogen, you sometimes can develop a cyst on the ovary. If you are still experiencing pain, I recommend you have an exam, perhaps with ultrasound, to verify that this is not something of any concern.
