Power Surge was created in 1993 on America Online with one main purpose in mind and a passion -- to create a warm, comfortable and caring community to provide support, help and accurate information to women going through menopause. In its 17th year online, Power Surge has brought right into your living room some of the country's leading experts (medical luminaries, physicians with different areas of expertise, psychologists, psychiatrists, pharmacists, intimacy, relationship, fitness and weight experts, authors, medical journalists, et al) in our guest chats, a very active Ask The Experts area and in articles all over the site. In the recommendations area, where women are provided information and links to products to alleviate their menopause and midlife-related issues. We provide polls and quizzes, questionnaires and tips to get through this oftentimes very difficult transition of life.
Power Surge's Menopause Message Board is the only message board on the subject to be included in Forbes Magazine's "Best of the Web" message boards.
We've always kept our standards high and have been honored to receive glowing accolades from the top women's health organizations, doctors, newspapers, magazines, and have been included as an exemplary resource in nearly every woman's health and menopause book.
In 1996, when Power Surge expanded beyond AOL with its sister Web site on the Internet, the cost of running this community was small in contrast to what it is today in 2010. Power Surge is comprised of 15+ domains. The monthly charges for running our server, paying for special applications running on other servers, absorbing the fees for regularly renewing our domains, our chat room and message board maintained and running smoothly have become prohibitive. The cost of specialized programmers all comes out of Power Surge's pockets. As these costs have climbed and our membership and traffic has grown, we've been encouraged by our members who have generously volunteered to donate to the site to help defray the cost of keeping Power Surge online and free.
For the "support" alone women (and men) receive day after day often for months and years, remember... just one visit to a therapist costs an average of $150.00 - just ONE VISIT!
We've heard from so many of you who have been enormously helped by the support, information and camraderie you've found at Power Surge.
